i discovered the Ecipse pen company this summer,
SNIP
what are your Eclipse pens?
Ohhh.... I'm not sure we wanna go there.
I own very few Eclipses, but as part of my pen photo archiving work, I had the chance to photograph one of the world's great Eclipse collections. Have not edited most of the shots done in 2005, though I've done a couple.
There had been some debate back when as to whether Eclipses should have "Eclipse" nibs or could be correct with no-name warranted nibs. This pen and its barrel label answered that question.
One of the kings of the series... an oversized non-black pen with overlay

This tray includes a Marxton and a Park Row and from the right to left, a Keene and three Jackwins. To the left of them is an unusual bulb filler that needs a clip. Any one have a donor?
Light is not good this morning. Will be back with the Canadian lot.

Here is my American made stash. I particularly like the two RMHR and the green OS Flat tops.
Nice array of pens, Blotto
So, here's the evil challenge question...
Are you certain the mottled pen is rubber?

Sure smell like it.
Smell would be suggestive
I ask because I have some recollection that at least some of the mottled Eclipse pens are red plastic with a lacquer/paint giving the mottled black effect.

Interesting, evocative materials in some of these.
From the top, pen #2 and the last blue one, are button fills. Why Eclipse would revert to this fill method is defies logic, especially when you consider that the last pen was made at the end of their life (mid/late '50's?). That pen also reflects the eclipse of Eclipse. Flimsy material and construction.
The oldest in the lot is the Blue/Brown marble with the ball clip. 1930 somethingish. Takes a good deal of hutspah (sp?) to put green, iridescent jewels on that pen.
Really like the stepped end-caps on the green snakeskin, and the red/black pin-stripe has a certain amount of dash.
All of these have IGP nibs with Eclipse imprinted in a football logo. Don't sneeze with the cap off; the plating will blow away.
And this always make me wonder about the brand. Early on, their design, materials and workmanship was as good as any of the major brands. The Klein design clips were problematic, but they clearly opted for second tier with their nibs. Too bad. They could have been a contender.

That's all...for now.

IBut, there is something else... interesting... about this pen.

Seems to evoke a bit of both Striped Duofold and Conklin, along with the "51"/Taperite. Flock-shooting imitation?

I might own the following Eclipse (pens buried everywhere... who know where?) as it as shot in my home double light-box, not done on the road. Probably turned up in one of the pen hoards purchased. The hooded nib suggests late production, some weak attempt to emulate the Parker 51.

lemme guess. the Hooded Knight was a button filler, and was only produced in solid colors.

who made hooded Knights? I had a grey set and the smell from it was not to be discribed. Any one else have that problem?
