But David, I'm talking Quantity not Quality.
Hey, I'm all for anyone talking about whatever he wants to talk about
But, as you know, one of life's greatest joys for most people is to engage in semantic nitpicking. Right? You mean, it isn't for everyone? Shocked! Shocked I am to consider that.
Anyhoo... my job is to lend order to chaos, to preserve the meaning of words.
Roger and I discussed the World's Most Comprehensive Orange Plastic Sheaffer Collection. Not the World's Largest Quantity of...
Now, as I noted, I could probably double the quantity shown in my pic, if quantity mattered, but no, the chat wasn't about quantity or quality, it was about comprehensiveness, not that tangents are eschewed.
Comprehensive: complete; including all or nearly all elements or aspects of something: a comprehensive list of sources. Of large scope; wide-ranging: a comprehensive collection of photographs.
The mathmetical notion of comprehensive, a set containing nearly all elements or aspects of something, does not require many items in that set, though often many items are present. But, a set having many items in it need not be comprehensive.
A basket with 100 apples, each of a different type, offers a rather comprehensive selection. A basket with 200 of the same type apple will offer greater quantity but will not be at all comprehensive.
Who said pedantry can't be fun
Still, tough crowd out there today.
