Actually, I rather like Richard's remake of the vintage Postal Pen with his New Postal.

The 1920's- (?) early 1930's saw a few brands of BIg Black Pens with Big Transparent Barrels.

Postal was one. Dunn (as in the Dunn Camel) another. Often forgotten is Sager with its Transparo.

At the Ohio Pen Show, Nov 2010, a fellow was strolling down an aisle carrying a crate of pen trays. I literally called out to him (hey, nothing ventured nothing gained) to ask if he was looking to sell pens. You can guess where this leads.

Rummaging through about 200 pens, I managed to grab about 20 for my collection and for the website. One was an oversized Sager Transparo, one I've wanted to grab for no small time, as I've photo'd Dunns and Postals, but not a Transparo.

So... here she be...

Not the Dunn Camel, David. Dunn's transparent pen was the Tattler, available in several sizes.

But I gotta admit, I do lust after a nice Sager, like this combo that belongs to a LI-based collector you know:

Thanks for the info guys.... I knew about these but never owned one, except for today. I just got the hugest OS Sager Barrel o' ink, in black with transparent barrel I ever did see. I always wanted one, and in my pen huntin endeavors for material for DC, turned this gem up. Pictures are forthcoming, but what a cool pen. Three band cap.

In case anyone is sleeping, there is a Sager ending in about six hours on the well known auction site: 251008565679 .

Cool. Ebay references to good pens always are appreciated.

Well here finally is my quick and dirty image of my small Sager collection. There's a Grieshaber thrown in there so one can see just how close they are. I also have a Grieshaber ad showing their Grieshaber Transparo...

I love that pen David. I was just looking at some new Pilot pens, and this reminds me of them, just in the preferred vintage style which attracts me. Onto finding a similar pen.

David, your pen seems to be missing its barrel band. I just picked one of these up at an auction. Unfortunately, mine is missing the clip.

Does yours have a nib marked Chief? I wonder if that was maybe what they called their oversize pens?

Brian,

Chief is from their earlier flattop line. A great find none the less, if you are interested in letting it go as is let me know.

Thanks for the info. Sagers are hard to find information about. I think i'm going to try and find a replacement Z clip for this and repair it. It seems like it will be a pretty awesome pen if I can get it working again.
