Possibly Interesting Houston?

Well, at eBay I picked up a Houston-made Jiffy pen that I think may be a bit interesting. You can see the pen here: Jiffy Pen So, what makes it interesting? No, it's not the 14k band, as I already have a Jiffy with the same narrow solid gold band. Could it be the double struck imprint? Well, this (to me) is kind of cool, but is not what I had in mind. What may be interesting can be seen in photos 5 and 6 of the listing... The pen seems to have a two-piece cap that is imprinted "PAT APL FOR." Though I have only about a dozen Houston pens in my collection, I have never before seen this two-piece cap. I also haven't found a patent for it. Maybe one was never awarded, hence the scarceness of the cap? Anyway, I realize that this is extreme esoterica (minutia about a minor brand), but it's cool to me.
