I continue to be amazed by what can be done with a wee years-old point-and-shoot digital camera ;)

The following does not show my entire collection of Sheaffer 1930's Balance in the color called Ebonized Pearl (black with MOP chips). No doubt others have nice hoards too. However, I do assert this probably is the most significant photo of that color, for what it shows besides just a nice pen spread in that color. I will offer a challenge and prize to go with this one

To give some sense of scale, from Left to Right pen 1, 2, 5 and 7 are oversized. A single pen here is well documented. The others have tweaks that render them at least uncatalogued and probably wholly undocumented. Can you identify those features?

Whoever first posts all the quirks found in this photo (yeah, who knows, maybe there are more than I know...) starting with identification of the normal, non-anomalous pen, will have nice sized print (yeah, a real photo from the lab, not an ink-jet shot) sent his way. Note that some pens might have more than a single interesting featurePosted Image

I'll be mean and exclude Daniel, Roger and Pat Mohan from the challenge itself, since you three know too darn much already ;) You guys are free to comment/advise on the answers offered of course once (if?) there actually are some stabs at answers.

Yes, to some extent this involves "are you thinking what I'm thinking" but I'll leave some wiggle room for answer.

How quickly they forget. Posted this one about 6 years ago at another site. Still, should give a wee bit of challenge.

1. Lifetime OS 1934, lever-fill

2. Lifetime OS 1934, plain non-signed 14K? clip, wide milled band, lever-fill

3. non-Lifetime 1934 full length slender or Junior?, fish-scale band, ink view section, lifetime platinum-masked medium nib, lever-fill

7. Lifetime OS 1934, plain non-signed 14K? clip, double deco bands, lever-fill

That's pretty well good for the prize. To clarify a few details....

1. Lifetime OS 1934, lever-fill . Typical catalogued form

2. Lifetime OS 1934, plain non-signed 14K? clip, wide milled band, lever-fill. Yep. Off catalogue wide milled "Jeweler's" or "Fancy" band. Good pick up on the non-Sheaffer-marked clip. The later radius clip of course is not marked, but this flat ball clip-usually is. Fancy band pens when they turn up with pre-Radius clip, tend to have unmarked clips. This is also true iirc for Autograph pens (Solid gold trim) even though some of those are catalogued. The clip in the case of fancy band pens is non-14k.

3. non-Lifetime 1934 full length slender or Junior?, fish-scale band, ink view section, lifetime platinum-masked medium nib, lever-fill. Standard length, maybe Standard girth. Again, for uncatalogued fancy bands, has unstamped clip-- even when flat-ball type-- and clip is gold-filled as is the band.

4. Lifetime 1932, full length slender, 14K clip, Autograph, lever-fill. Yes. While Autograph in general is a catalogued model range, it was never catalogued in Ebonized Pearl, rendering this pen... interesting.

5. non-Lifetime OS 1934, lever-fill. OS NON-Lifetimes were not catalogued, tbomk, certainly not in Ebonized Pearl

6. Lifetime 1934, full length slender?, plain non-signed 14K? clip, central wide deco ban with 2 thin milled bands, lever-fill. Triple band pens are quite scarce and are off catalogue. As for all the fancy bands, the clip is unstamped but not 14k. Typical flat-ball clips for catalogued pens have "Sheaffer's" stamped.

7. Lifetime OS 1934, plain non-signed 14K? clip, double deco bands, lever-fill. Off catalogue cap-band pattern. Unstamped flat-ball clip as per above. Again, gold-filled clip

Drop me address back-channel. During next couple weeks I'll have at least an 8 by 10 printed for you :)

One fellow wrote to ask why I had not included my off catalogue Ebonized Pearl golf pencil. I... had forgotten.
