Recently I acquired a Wahl Eversharp Skyline Command Performance fountain pen and it will need some basic restoration to include a new bladder/sac. Having restored a few W-E Skylines in the past my abilities are getting there, except this pen body is 14Kt gold. Is there something different to these metal bodied pens that I should have my eye open for? Do they react differently to the heat?

The thing that's different is that the section does not separate from the body at the usual place. The entire plastic assembly comes out of the gold barrel. It's usually keyed so that it will go in one way, to ensure alignment.

Thanks Richard. I am going to assume the point I need to apply heat to is where the gold and the plastic meet?

Yup. The plastic goes into the metal, so the metal is where you want to heat. Be aware that solid gold, even 14K, is a pretty doggone good conductor of heat -- the whole barrel can get hot quicker than you're expecting.

Richard mentioned the "key". That means that the whole front end will probably need to be "wiggled" out of the barrel since the key prevents it from just twisting out.

I was hanging out after the Boston show at his place and had chance to see this in person. I have a grand all gold-filled Skyline ( latitudinal lines) that had the gf barrel with bit of gap from the section. Was strange to see the little stub of plastic barrel removed from the gf portion.
