What may be the end of Qantas flying outside Australia as an International carrier is unfolding at present. The "open sky" policy here has allowed foreign airlines with lower wage structures to compete openly for a number of years and Qantas has met the challenge so far but union strikes and wage demands ( despite Qantas workers being better paid than other domestic carriers employees and considerably more than their international competition) seem set to deliver an unsavory result. With several family members working for Qantas I hope all is not as "gloomy" as it seems. A sad day indeed.
