Hi,

Settling into the new apartment and starting to unload pens in the new pen room. Goal was to get the pen stuff truly organized. Big bookcases with storage hutches, floating cabinets to serve extra storage. Multi-wall desks for pen sorting, photgraphing etc.

The room is shaping up nicely. As there essentially is no room left to incorporate wall track lighting, I've been exploring (and have sample arriving tomorrow) high power LED flat lighting, strips that can rest on top of the wall cabinets in the 2" gap. Might even work.

I will remember in 1998 when introduced to old pens by my friend, the late Jeff Ash, wondering how I'd fill the 20-pen case he'd obtained for me. Good times...

As I noted earlier, the other end of the black hole for pens has relocated from Syracuse to upper Manhattan. Looks nice though.

Wow! David, that is a serious room with such goodies! Very, very impressive! I really like the cabinets and storage you have set up to organize everything.

Being not from that area, that is, every actually living in such a large city, your comments about the large window intrigue me. Is this typical of an older, or newer apartment?

Great video David! Thank you!

Newer buildings tend to have more of the outer walls taken by windows, but there is variability. I didn't hunt for a view when I looked for the rental, but I do appreciate that the view is not awful.

Hi Pedro,

Any collecting overlaps hoarding. That ol' Venn Diagram.

But, unlike the folks on TV, I am capable of selling things, and I can keep a path clear to the desk ;)

I see! I do not know of many people that live in the "Big City" so it is always interesting to find out what the story is, how things are done there, etc. My image of New York is fire escapes and people sitting outside on hot days, or open hydrants for kids to cool down.

When I went for training at Jaeger LeCoultre a few years back I stayed at a nice hotel and experienced the "City" as it was for about a week. Met with my friend from Finland who was a watchmaker for Patek Philippe and also my friend in charge of the jewelry department for Sotheby's; what fun that was!

When I worked for Rolex we had dinner at a fancy place called Le Cirque; men had to wear coats and ties. Pretty pricey place from what I remember.

Everything in the city is pricey. The hefty savings I accumulated living reasonably the last few years will subsidize living unreasonably the next couple ;)

But, the place is nice. Cannot complain.

Wow David
Some of these posts - like this and the one where the old sheaffer overlay one-ups-manship gets dusplayed --
Makes me wonder what kind of pile they might find me under some day.
I will keep in mind some of the storage ideas for later.

Hi Sam,

Yeah, the pen vids are fun to do. Still amazed how the pens pile up over the years.

A whole room of pens! Wow, and a great view too!

Perhaps we will see a sequel to the first video, with some appropriate mood music. May I suggest some Mozart's Magic Flute?
