I'm posting here as well as a PM to the admin in case there are others having this problem.

Is there a software problem that is hiding occasional postings or is it my browser?

In this thread,
http://fountainpenbo...-modern-stripe/
posting #17 is missing on my screen and there is a large blank space at the bottom of posting #16 --- #17 will only appear after I click on the blank area.

Also in this thread, (the title page says there are 5 replies) posting #2 is missing on my screen and again there is a extra blank area below the buttons at the bottom of posting #1. Posting #2 does appear when I click on the blank space, but the wait is considerably longer than the example above:
http://fountainpenbo...9-is-this-real/

I've encountered this problem elsewhere, but these are the examples I could find today. The other thing I notice more often are replies that cover the entire previous posting except for the bar at the top of the message, or replies that cover a photo in the previous message.

There's 2 issues here:

1. 2 of my posts were removed today.

2. Three of my posts were edited. One of them was initially removed, then put back and edited.

There's no software problem that can account for editing.

Interesting.

When I view the first thread, posting #16 is missing altogether even though it is quoted in David's posting #17.

Hi John and Matt.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I dropped a couple long notes to Matt backchannel, as there appears to be a quirk in play with the Boardware.

First, we should clarify there is only one issue here.

Mr. Veley's ostensible concerns have nothing to do with the issue Matt raised, and are a strawman of sorts, as the removal of certain text of his that was violation of one of fairly few policies at FPB has been explained explicitly to him in other threads, and he has been given the option-- which he has chosen so far not to exercise-- to have entire posts of that sort removed rather than simply the offending sentences.

Second, moving on to the possible problem with boardware.

First, I note that the boardware has not been updated in more than a year, so we should not be having any problem with old browsers, for those of you using potentially out of date browsers, at least not if you have not had problems all along.

Second, we opened Matt's second thread of concern ( Lucky Lock Pencil) in three fashions: Admin in Firefox, David-I in Safari, and Guest in Safari.

Third, We opened the longer Wahl Modern Stripe thread in two fashions: Admin in Firefox adn David-I in Safari.

This was done on outside chance another moderator invisibled a thread, and I was unaware of this.

In the short Lucky Lock thread, all posts are showing and numbering is the same.

In the long Wahl thread-- first page-- all posts are visible, although the numbering is radically different in the Safari non-Admin account. Thus there are skips in numbering, which might be disconcerting, but all the posts seen in the normally-numbered Admin account are present.

I note that both posts (if i followed) that seemed to give Matt trouble appear to follow posts that have large images.

Also, I note we've had couple boardware database gitches the last couple weeks resulting in downtime for the Board, solved only by my webhost, who does great work, I'm happy to say.

I'm wondering if transiently slow-loading photos (database access from server, or wifi issues at user end) are resulting in the big spaces (space is defined by the Board- I believe- for images that are yet to load) being noted, and the odd formatting, as the large images start out full size (and could encroach on subsequent posts) before the boardware does its shrink-to-fit thing.

Rest assured that having the Board load properly is a key goal. How could it not be? ;)

The numbering anomaly in Safari might represent prior removal of duplicate and spam posts, but all posts that should be there (and are numbered sequentially in Firefox) are present on my exam.

PLEASE give some follow up on this, as to whether it resolves, persists or worsens. The next step would be to get my webhost involved, but at moment I'm not sure what I would ask the people there.

Regards

Hi Matt,

Another thought. Possibly a recent change in the automatic quotation system is to blame.

The Admin Panel for setting Board parameters is not a very transparent system. The original settings for post responses generated automatic quotation of just the fresh material from the prior post. Recently this was tweaked to allow all the nested posts to appear as well. That seemed a good idea to present information without requiring manual quoting to be done, which is tough for some to do.

But, we are getting many heavily nested posts with no trimming, and now we are seeing this glitch in the Board. If I can find the setting controls and if this problem persists, I'll try to reset the quotation system to see if that helps.

regards

David:
Don't know if this is related, but in this thread,

Post # 9 IIRC, you responded to post by John Jenkens that belongs in some other thread.

Good luck,

Hi Dan,

Thanks :)

Think that was a case of my posting in too many threads at once!

However, if more of this crops up and is an actual glitch, that will be a tough fix... as I have no idea how it would be happening.

I'll keep eye out.

In meanwhile, moved the post to the right place.

regards

david

I checked the Skyline post at home on IE (same as work), and the thread is complete and numbered properly. Very odd.
