Hi All,

Well, I got this pen in a purchase recently with a bunch of other pens, stuff I can actually use like Parker 51's and Sheaffer's.

I have no idea what this pen is. Any assistance would be appreciated, including value.

As best as I can tell from your pictures it looks like a Waterman's Chased Overlay with the old straight cap design, maybe a 0504. Could be a 0502, but the nib looks a little larger to me. This would be from the early 1900's. If it is a true Waterman, the quality of construction should be very good - and that's hard to tell without holding the pen in hand. There were a lot of cheap overlays similar to this made, but you usually can detect seams in the overlay and that sort of thing indicating cheap construction.

It would help to see the feed. It should be the typical Waterman spoon feed from 1899, or the earlier 3 fissure feed.

Just posted close ups of the feed! Thanks!

I was told this morning this pen is a Waterman 0502 snail pattern overlay, maybe so.

Well, that is certainly a Waterman's spoon feed. The pen looks right to be an 0502, but I am a little surprised the overlay isn't marked somewhere. Usually, the 0502 appears on the end of the barrel, but they do occasionally seem to leave that off.

I'm not an early Watermaniac, though the pen appears to be of the 0502/0504 sort. Not at all certain the early ones had markings on the butt. I'll keep open mind until others chime in.

If clean with good cap closure and posting, not brassed out or horribly dinged up, I'd see the range as $500-900. Again, I invite those who deal more with these to provide input.

I have a great memory with this pen, bought it for $25 at the famous Rose Bowl Flea Market Posted Image

I brought it to the LA pen show three years ago and was told I could get around $900, because the condition was very good.

So I agree with David, $500-$900 is a fair estimate.

Hey, thanks folks! Really appreciate the information, and the story too! Rose Bowl Flea Market still is turning up stuff? That is nice to know.

Great! Will sell then the pen as is to whomever is interested in it, offers? Posted Image
