I started collecting vintage fountain pens about 5 years ago when I read an article that rejuvenated my interest in hand writing with my thoughts going back to using a fountain pen at High School.

I vividly recall as a kid aged about 7 or 8 having to mix the fountain pen ink powder and water together in an aluminium bucket and then all the kids filling their china ink wells that fitted in a hole of the two person desk - yes the dip pen.

These days I am trying to stay focused on pre 1960 Parker, Wahl Eversharp and a few select Conway Stewart with the odd waiver. I found this site when searching for an identification for a slender vacumatic and found it to be informative with interesting folk, so here I am.

Welcome Innes,
Nice focus for a collection.
I just remember a ridge for a pen or pencil and a circular indent for the ink or ink bottle in our school desks,
I DO remember the mythology of dipping locks in ink.
Best wishes,
Mars

Unfortunately, because Jonathan's CS Encyclopedia hasn't been updated in years, it is not the complete reference it once was. Alongside all the information and life-sized pictures of the pens themselves, you'll find the book tells you all about the history and background of the company and the CS personnel involved, neither of which are addressed on the website. It is such a shame that Jonathan didn't live to see the publication of FPFTM, he would have loved it.
