The auction ended late July for these pens at $371-- all are described as fully restored by seller RobertMarkRoth (whose picture I grabbed to show below). Thoughts about the price?

Hi,

Bob has had a nice ebay presence for quite some time and tends to grade fairly. Just as plain Parker Challengers and even some of the fancier Parkettes can pull decent bucks, serious Wahl collectors can have real interest in Oxfords, which range from being essentially re-badged high quality Wahl pens such as flat-top and Equi-pOised to later mid 1930's Parkette- level pens. The later ones tend to be intrinsically lower quality pens than period proper Wahls and are hard to find clean. They offer some funky colors. Finding funky-color Oxfords with decent trim (trim more than plastic tends to be weak point of cheap-line pens by the big guys of the 1930's) can be truly challenging.

While I don't know that I'd buy this cluster for my collection, if I offered such pens for sale I'd likely charge a bit more than the average rate shown for each. Too, keep in mind that for those of us who don't restore pens, a simple resac can run $15+ and a restoration $30+, so if Bob fixed these before offering, there is a chunk of value right there.

Not sure I've seen the green or orange before, not that I hunt Oxford the way I do Parker Vac.

regards

david

Being a recent Oxford enthusiast, I actually bid on this sale...if the time had been right I would have bid higher.

The value is to the buyer, and, as David points out, these were obviously well restored with a couple of exceptional finds. I'd argue they would have gone for a much higher price separately at a pen show.

Regards to all,
M.
