I recently acquired an Italian Waterman overlay. Usually, the Waterman is easily repaired by removing the section above the knob. This pen's overly is seamless and cannot be unscrewed in the usual fashion. Does the overlay have to be removed or cut?

I have seen overlays with seams. I haven't as yet seen a seamless one, but I would remove the overlay rather than cut it. I know of repairman who routinely does this if you are unsure about doing it yourself.

I have just recently repaired a pen of this type, it was not easy, basically gripping the overlay to squeeze the barrel end and then dismantle to repair. I installed viton "O" rings and tested the pen with out the overlay, before fully assembling with the overlay. A very bad design and not an easy task to carry out on pens that are normally fairly straight forward to repair.

Do you have a picture showing this Waterman safety with some sort of seam...

Hi, that's the problem: there is no seam.

Then the overlay will need to come off, tricky at best.

Yeah I was afraid you would say that.
