I was going through some parts today and found a nib I didn't know was produced, it's an earlier Sheaffer lifetime nib. However the nib is marked "Sheaffer Lady Lifetime" as opposed to the normal lifetime markings. Has anyone else seen these before? I've been trying to find some info on them but I haven't come across anything yet.

Hi Gabriel,

Believe I have some 1920's flat-end Sheaffers with that nib. Small pens (no shock) White-Dot. Offhand, I cannot give firm explanation, but guess would be that for at least a time with the small White Dot pens targeted at women, that the nibs were so marked to add a bit of charm and to support the "small nib, White Dot" target. Given that essentially all nibs for White Dot pens (some flexes might have been exception) in mid '20s were Lifetime, the "Lady" wasn't necessary to indicate match to White Dot. I have not reviewed all my small White Dot flat-tops to see if all have "Lady" nibs. Probably overdue to check.

regards

david

Lady lifetimes were found on some but, not all smaller lifetimes starting in 1924 as a smaller ringtop. At some point the ad department got word that there was a Student Lifetime nib (August 1925) which was never produced to the best of my knowledge. Lady Lifetimes were still advertised in 1926 with later ads after that just merely showing lifetime nibs on smaller pens with "Lady" no longer present. The Lady nibs did not constitutes another model so I've not made a study of them - they are simply 74SR's (thinner short ringtops) in black or jade.

Lady Lifetime nibs can be found in 74SC and 74SR in 1926 catalog but they were changed to normal Liftetime nibs in 1928 catalog, meaning that the production of Lady Lifetime was stopped between 1926 -28 !

May because of this short production time, compare to other Lifetime nibs, Lady Lifetimenibs are much less seen.

We found one of these Lady Lifetime nibs on a jade green junior size pen with a clip. Maybe the nib was a swap .... or possible the cap was swapped.

Teri;

Lady didn't mean ringtop it meant smaller diameter pen for smaller hands (paraphrasing catalog description) .  The 1925 catalog clearly shows this on page 11 with the J74SC (the one pictured above) next to the J74SR (a ringtop) both with Lady nibs.  Therefore the pen above has an appropriate nib and is likely original.  I note my 2012 response left out the J74SC which was an oversight.
