Hi Gang,

I have been interested in Webster BCHR pens for a while now, and have been able to buy several of them. The largest I have found is the Professional B (the Duofold Sr. is there to show size). I have three of them, two of which are pictured (naturally the better 2).

I am wondering who manufactured the Professional B for Sears to sell?

I have two Webster pencils which look very similar to the Parker Duofold Sr. pencils. Did Parker manufacture these pencils for them? I know that is has been discussed on this board that Parker produced pens for Webster in the 30's.

I'm also hoping some of you have examples of Webster's of which are made from hard rubber that you would like to share.

Thanks,

Preston

I am not a Webster expert, but do not think any of the pens featured in your collection here were Parker products (I cant speak for the pencils). I have read speculation that they were Barrett - National Pen products out of Chicago. Parker had a later tie in with Webster, which has been discussed here.

I had some research that tied Webster to the Barrett pen company which seems to have been merged with, or bought by, National. There are also some threads on this board that indicate that Webster, as well as Good Service, were re-brands (or something other than sub-brands at any rate) of Parker's and Shaeffers, and probably Waterman as well.

Be very interested in learning more. Anyone?

I've read a bit about the link between Barrett and National, one thought is that National had Barrett make some pens for them or supply parts. I have seen documentation that one Barrett brand was "Traveller" and that pen had little to do with National in style. Little doubt National did supply some Webster products to Sears, as did Parker but who else I don't know. A picture of the feed is always helpful with these pens as well. I've suspected that Conklin may have provided some pens (to both Sears and National) and possibly Kraker (?). Still National remains the prime "suspect" in the OP.

There might have been two Webster pen companies. One, at least, was in New York, and manufactured pens through World War II, many plunger-fill types in khaki plastic (armed forces motif). I have a set of Webster's from the 1920s, and I do believe they were made in NYC. Dave Silber, Noyesville Pens
