Just got this in the mail today:

Is the cap normal, or is there some kind of jewel missing?

Yup, thats legit. It's the same style they used on the 3 & 3V models.

$20 shipped is a great price for that pen.

I've owned a few and have some similar pens lying around somewhere. Not a hard focus for me.

Believe these turned up late 1930's. Think they are very similar to a couple slightly earlier (?) pens that had number not name, maybe 32 A (or the long 3-J), the short pen relating as noted above to the 3-V. Plastic different from the 3-series.

Believe both the long and short can be had in a light gray with red veins, dark gray with red veins and brown with (? red) veins.

They were low tier pens but still of good quality often with nice flex.
