From the Gang-of-Five pen hoard.

The last item, the full "pen" is a store dummy (fused cap, holes in back for post mounting), but could be replaced by real pen. The second to last pen (shown at wrong spin) does have the lever slot cut into it. Amazing set, only one like it I've seen.

Less common than the hard rubber era demonstration sets. I've got one still mounted on its display board.

Figured you might have one.

This was the rest of the dummy pen pile. All have fused caps and holes for presentation mounting.

Getting over the cool, there is a lot to be learned from such pieces regarding the manufacturing process. I believe David N has the mounted version and perhaps the text that goes with it.

Is there anything you can garner about pen manufacture from the picture?

Is this a question for me?

If so, i take from this image the respect that these craftsman had for their skills back in the 30s-40s. I've owned dummy pens, no Watermans, but they give a great insite to potential customers about the pens if they were buying. Also its quite a process to make these, given the steps in which these sets show.

A picture like this evokes images of talented craftsmen exercising their experience ever so patiently utilizing the tools of the trade such as drills, lathes, taps, dies, end mills, grinders, buffers, small hammers and safety goggles or glasses. It also conjures up visions of employees in denim and khaki in a workshop without air conditioning making a living plying their trade, but I've never been to a pen factory.
