Mabie had some beautiful patterns. I picked up this gem solid gold pen on ebay at very reasonable price. Apparently some were scared off by the presence of a Sheaffer nib instead of a Mabie Todd #2. Their loss ;)

I have one in a different pattern , however is the lever supposed to be like that? I have a couple swan pens with the same lever, I cannot tell if they are broken, or they were just made like that.

Lever apparently is supposed to be like that. Functions well. Collector friend out in Chicago speculated the structure was to evade limitations imposed by Sheaffer's patent. I cannot comment beyond that.

I just acquired a ring topped version of the same overlay, but with a "conventional" lever.  The Mabie Todd in America book shows an example of your version as well.
