Here is an ebay ad. Sheaffer Tucky set. Black. Gold-filled trim. Has a nib. $990.

Do assess the set. Do assess the pics. Do assess the ad text. Who defines, "reasonable", as per the ad text. Thoughts?

Well, now. It does have the coveted gold "tip". This may be even better than having the famous gold "nip" that many ebay sellers promote. I am not sure which is better.

Maybe I'll offer a hundred bucks. That seems reasonable. B)

Schrödinger's cat walks into a bar.  And doesn't.

Raw. Unrestored. No comment on grade. Tipping material not shown? Not so reasonable ;)

I'd sell one restored with warranty in great shape for a smidge more...

Nonsense. Unrestored black Tuckaways go for around $30 on ebay. This may be one of those items that keeps popping up in your searches month after month until you'd like to send the dealer a nastygram.

If he says no reasonable offers are refused, then he should take any offer of 30 bucks or more.

Ah but that's the charm of bullshit ad verbiage.

"Reasonable" to whom? Defined how? ;)

I would "reason" that this seller is quite the marketing mavin, for if he can sell this pen at that price then for sure he can sell sand to the Egyptians.Posted Image

Perhaps with my skills I can increase the value of the "Coveted gold tip" by putting a nice broad stub on it?

Assuming the nib is intact (the pic is limited) and if there are not fatal flaws, i would peg value as-is around $30.

After a $30 restoration, an excellent set would retail around $125 (feel free to share your own views about value range).

$30 + $30 restoration, plus shipping the set, plus shipping to and from restorer, leaves reasonable room for the retail sale, assuming pen survives restoration and has no surprise flaws.

Maybe worth bit more to one who does his own restorations and enjoys the time spent on that.

$990 for a raw set with no warranty and with poor image of nib is... optimistic in my view.

It's reasonable to me. It is what he SHOULD reasonably expect someone to offer him. May not be what he deems reasonable. Perhaps he paid what I would consider an unreasonable amount for them to begin with.

That's the charm, such as it is. Will he consider reasonable an offer of 3% the asking price?

Perhaps one could play this the other way and offer to the seller a similar set found in grandma's stuff for purchase at a reasonable price.

By the seller - always their prerogative. I just hope he's not too surprised when they don't sell.

I saw a few boxes of dip pen nibs and a handful of junky holders listed for $500 the other day.
By that standard, surely these pens are worth double!
