I feel like a dummy when I find stuff like this; looks cheap, but it is interesting nevertheless. Posted Image

Can someone help me with this? Toss in the trash or revere as a collectable?Posted Image

Well, I certainly wouldn't toss it in the trash, but it probably is a cheap Japanese pen - fairly old, with a glass nib, modeled after the Conkllin Crescent fillers. Don't think you can retip this one, Greg! ;)

Schrödinger's cat walks into a bar.  And doesn't.

Allan

Yeah, I think there have been a couple of Spors threads here, I know I dug up some info on it.

BTW, Greg: If I'm reading it correctly, it looks like the crescent is mongrammed J. M. S. - which happens to be my initials! Let me know if you end up not wanting it or something... :)

It may be a Spors (Frank Spors owned a catalog marketing operation in Minnesota) catalog pen, though I have not seen this "demonstrator" model in any of the catalogs I have. However, my collection of catalogs is far from complete. Many of his marketed pens do have the name SPORS imprinted on them, but not all. So, I would say that there is a good chance this is a pen sold out of his catalog, but not for certain.

Here are a few Spors articles that I wrote a few years ago, with photos and a few catalog shots.

By the way, be careful if you try to restore it. Spors sometimes glued their sections to the body. In that case, it will take a master of the heat gun to remove the section without breaking the pen.

Oh, I won't touch it; I will leave it in the "as found" condition for some lucky person to have!

Thank you for the warning! Well taken!

Hi Greg,
Actually you can "re-tip" this "nib".

One of mine Haro pens ,showed in the above mentioned post, had a broken "nib" (about 0,5 mm), so I decided to sand it using a 800 sand paper and then with a 1200 . After that I used a polishing cloth wheel to finish it and I ended up with a broad nib working pretty well..

This glass nibs are not easy to find anymore and this can be a good compromising solution...

The problem is that I don't have 1/10 of your mastery, nor the glass will ever return any flex, but this nibs are surprisingly good writers IMHO.
