Cap top shows celluloid degradation?

That's what I caught.

Thoughts on impact on value and collectability?

Worth the $500?

I think it severely impacts the value. Iirc this is a colour with a reputation for fragility, as such good examples would be at a premium while those with faults the most common. The rest of the pen looks excellent, I think I'd be looking at this as a "filler" ( I would assume a replacement cap would be about as common as "hens teeth") or as a parts pen, on that basis $100-$150.

Alas, it's the same affliction that my OS red-and-gray is suffering. It truly is the weakness of these otherwise fantastic pens.

I also have an OS with the same problem, more so than this one, but still an attractive pen. I realize that the color in the photos may not be accurate, but it looks like the gray has started to pick up a green tint, another problem endemic to this pattern. If so, that's a big downgrade for me. I have a full size Balance in this pattern that is nearly mint, with perfect color.
