Hi, I am a drummer and drum teacher from Dorset, England and as well as playing in a band, I travel to different schools in the Dorset area teaching budding musicians how to play the drum kit.
My hobby is collecting fountain pens and I have done so since my school days in the sixties. I have a nice collection of Parker's, Waterman's, Sheaffer's, Cross etc. but my favourite pen is a Kaweco V1 which a parent of one of my pupils nearly threw out with a load of other old junk. I rescued it just in time.
I'm also a member of FPN, FPGeeks and FPCommunity and I'm glad to have now joined FPBoard to share and gain even more knowledge on my favourite subject so thank you for having me here.

From a fellow drummer and percussionist from across the waters, welcome. This is a very deep and knowledgeable group (myself excluded!) You'll find good information in these pages and posts....

Hi there Keith E Bartlett!
I'm going to be down near to your neck of the woods [at East Knoyle, Wiltshire] next Saturday for a re-union!
I'm pretty new here myself, but I suppose I'm allowed to send you a welcome message!
And a para-diddle rim shot to you too!

Hi Henry, Thank you for your warm welcome. I've been a fan of your brilliant work for ages and an ambition of mine is to own an Onoto Overlay No 1. I hope you have a great time at your reunion, it's not that far from where I live here in Dorset. It would be brilliant to meet you one day and perhaps demonstrate the para-diddle rim shot that you mentioned. Kind regards, Keith.

Hi JonSzanto, Thanks for your welcome and nice to know that I'm not the only drummer interested in fountain pens.

Blimey, now there are two of you, mad on both counts - in the nicest possible way, of course!

I'm sure we can help you with the pens, though possibly not the drumming - though Henry sounds as though he might be up for it!

Andy

Well, there must be more of us out there! To be honest, I've had a pretty schizophrenic career, with feet in both popular and classical worlds (I guess a symphony musician wouldn't seem that unusual with a fountain pen, being that the music is so dated as well!). Anyway, Hugh was poking me to post more stuff, so here are a couple shots to show the spread of things. First, my setup for the last concert (two nights ago) of the Mainly Mozart festival here in San Diego:

Hi JonSzanto, Thanks so much for the photo of your equipment and also of the clip of you playing. You are one hell of an absolutely brilliant drummer. Thanks for sharing that with me. Keith.

Welcome!

You will find the folks here at the FP Board wonderful, nice, and quite knowledgable.

Neat clip, thank you! I used to have as my neighbor the son of Lemmy from Motorhead; the neighbor was named Paul; nice guy!

If you need anything that I can assist you with, please let me know!

Thanks Andy for your warm welcome. I'm still trying to find my way around this site and understand how everything works with posting and replying etc. I'm more of a pen and paper guy and not very good with computery type things. Anyway I'm slowly getting there. Thanks once again. Keith.

Hi Keith,
I haven't been on here for a little while, but I just popped in, and saw that you had commented on the Onoto overlaid pen, so I thought that I would make a response!
With the exception of going to American Pen Shows from time to time, the only time that I try to miss attending my stand at Portobello, on a Saturday, is to attend the Clouds House Re-union, in East Knoyle, Wiltshire. I was there on the Saturday before last, and it was a very special one, as it was their 30th anniversary, having opened their doors to patients in 1983. [I was patient number 7, and later became the head chef there!
Because of the significance of the 30 years of their existence I decided to make 10 overlaid pens for them to sell, at their fund-raising auctions that they do periodically.
If you would like to see pictures of the Clouds House Pen, you will find them at:- www.henrysimpole.com
I'm pleased to say, that the two examples of the pen that I took down to present to them, sold on the day! I was so happy for them!

One more drumming pen collector: Gary Marshall, in Oxfordshire. Used to post a lot as GaryUK. (I think.) I once bought a Parker 17 with a beak nib (1962-64) from him.

His drumming Web site is www.funwhenyoudrum.com.

He may still be posting to one or another pen site I don't read, such as the Zoss list.

And hello, Jerome! I seem to bump into some of the most intersting people "over here".
