I spent Monday up in San Francisco on old stamping grounds, at Bonhams. There I hooked up with Ivan Briggs who now heads their pen department. They recently got a massive consignment of pens which includes several hundred (maybe a thousand) vintage pens. Ivan did the first cut selecting the most outstanding of the vintage offerings and then I came behind fine tuning the selection and helping to assess the fair value.

While it’s a bit early to get into specifics, I can tell you that there are pens there that I have only read about but never seen and many of these pens are in absolutely unheard of condition. The sale will feature about one hundred of the finest of these vintage pens alongside their usual offerings of modern and limited edition pens and will most likely take place in December, location to be determined.

In the weeks to come either Ivan or I or both of us will be coming back to you with details and with images. Stay tuned.

Sounds very exciting.

However as the old pen guys die off, I hope there are enough new younger folks in the hobby to "transfer the wealth" in an orderly manner.

December? That's a mighty tight time frame. I can hardly wait...

Yeah, I'm really glad that nowadays I get to be the "pro from Dover" and have no responsibility for logistics

Any specific date yet for December?

It's Dec. 18th in New York.

The catalog is already online.  Not as many vintage pens on offer as first thought.  The prices are 'interesting'.   We had a good discussion and laugh about what was on offer at our Sunday Pen Posse.  I was reading off the pens and prices from my cell phone and people were commenting.  The price on the Aztec is optimistic.

We're doing our part at Peyton Street Pens to transfer the love. Our photographer is 18 and my right hand web site assistant (who's also learning restoration) is 19. It makes me feel old, but what the hey.

Happy holidays everyone!
