I admit I'm not all that into the culture (cult?) of ink.

Sacrilege, perhaps ;)

If it writes a reasonable line in a color I like, I'm happy.

Too, I have not pursued (perhaps I should) the history of FP ink bottles, that quest for earliest known, rare shape, what have you.

But, I admit, watching the insanity... eurrr... intensity blossom oh, 8-9 years ago regarding this scarce vintage Sheaffer ink, I figured one day I would score a bottle on the cheap, just to... well... prove I could.

So, when I spotted an ebay ad showing multiple vintage Sheaffer inks (mostly Peacock and brown), and when I noticed this wee varmint hiding in the lot, I bid and wond.

Persian Rose. Appears to be unopened.

No complaints...

eh, don't open it

I wouldn't even open the box again, lol

there is a private reserve color that is almost a dead ringer...

is it "arabian rose" ?

just get some of that, and think it's the same, worked for me

nice score btw...

Unlike wine, ink does not improve with age however stored. There are already reports of this ink showing as brown, bile, etc. This bottle looks good: use it and enjoy it.

We are fortunate in that we can still use these 50+ year old inks. Not one bottle of ink made in the last couple of years will be usable even ten years from now, due to lack of proper fungicides. European inks are the worst: I've had two bottles of Skrip go bad on me in the last year. Herbin I won't even discuss.

Use the ink, David. Or break it up into samples and sell them.

Dear David,

I used it and found the most modern comparison to Skrip Persian Rose is Pilot's Yama-Budo from their limited edition Iroshizuku line. I'll see if I can scan and post a page for you.

Best,

Ah, but does it have the secret ingredient RC-35? And what is RC-35? (as in "What are the 39 Steps?)
