The market is... the market, but I think this one is pushing it. Some quick thoughts...

  • The pencil has sticker. The pen appears perhaps used. The blind cap falling from stem might be a problem. While possible to unscrew from stem if stem is stuck and pen just needs restoration (at least I believe so), these do pull off stripping threads as well, a non-trivial repair issue
  • This appears indeed to be largest pen, but note that "OS" for 2nd generation Doric (such as this Amethyst Shel) is standard diameter, no more plump than shorter pen. It is not a... monster).
Boxes sets and stickers charm no doubt. If pen had sticker and/or we new it was mint/nearmint this would be in the retail zone.

regards

David

Take a look at the number of bidders- there are only two and it looks like they are right in the middle of a 'pissing' contest. It happens!

Exactly what you want to see if you happen to be the seller, isn't it? Not so much if you happen to be on the outside hoping to grasp the realistic value of something.

The marketplace is an interesting thing. Bazaar seems an apt sounding term.

It's certainly an oversize set, seemingly with little use and boxed. I've found from experience the amethyst shell colour to be one of the hardest in OS to obtain.

Incidentally, an emerald shell oversize set in 'casket box' sold on eBay a few years ago for over $800.
