Recently, I got a phone call of one of the very few collector friends I really know in person. He came with an uncommon problem to me. He told me that he bought to many pens in the last two months. To many means, way to much over his budget and he wanted to sell some of them. The pens he bought were not the usual flea market stuff. He bought some serious collector items like solid gold Montblancs and Pelikans from the 1930's.
The pen which I was interested in was a Pelikan 111 probably from 1935.
That's how the pen looked when it came to me:
and this is how it looked after disassembling...
...yeah, the barrel has disassembled by itself. A problem that can be found on lots of Pelikan 100 from this era. Also from the Palladium nib remained only some dust. But the really exceptional thing about this pen is that it looks more or less unused. Maybe it has been filled once and then put away. There is no brassing at all and the knurling on filling knob is the crispest I ever have seen. Also the logo and imprints on the cap top looks as new.
Here some pics from after the restauration:
Unfortunately, I did not have a spare Barrel in that great condition as the rest of the pen. That's why the inkwindow is ambered. But all in all, this is a quite nice addition to the flock I think...
