I've recently acquired this sheaffer. I'm not an expert by any means, so there probably are several errors in my description of the pen as a Sheaffer Balance Statesman. It has a lifetime nib, a 1000 price code and, most puzzling to me, a tuckaway clip. The cap seems to belong to the pen, as it screws down securely and has the same plastic as the pen. Am I mistaken in believing that the clip is an oddity?

Hi Paolino.

This one, I fear, indeed is a frankenpen. Barrel is a 1937-1931 Balance in gray.  Cap is  a 1945-7 Tuckie cap from probably a Tuckaway II, a pen that is itself , ironically, essentially a Tuckie version of the 1945-7 full clip pen, Statesman, but a 1945-7 Triumph family Statesman, not 1930's family Statesman.

As an aside, I recommend a wonderful four page thread discussing Tuckaway. Major eye candy.

Thanks for the answer and, most importantly, the link to that gorgeous thread.

As for the pen, it'll go to the parts bin, I fear
