Hi all,

I made the rookie mistake of rinsing a Parker 45 nib unit over the sink with the plug out... fortunately I didn't lose the nib itself, but the black plastic beak-shaped part did go down the plughole.

Does anyone know of anyone who is likely to have one of these available?

I've been keeping an eye on Ebay, but it seems a little daft to buy a complete 45 for this part, given the pen I lost it from is nothing special.

Before you use the sink much more, go underneath and remove the u shaped trap part of the drain pipe.

The nib collar may well still be there.

That should not be a non-removable pipe piece...

If you can't find the part in your trap, you can surely purchase an octanium nib part for the 45.  Parker sold them with the nib in the screw in part, e.g.

BTW, I'm not familiar with that site.  I was just looking for an image of the unit as sold, and clicked through,   It just happened to be in the UK.

Early on I sent a 51 clutch ring down the drain, to my great consternation.  I'm not a particularly handy person, but I did not have much trouble removing the trap from the piping below the sink.  Saved the clutch ring.

Worst comes to worst, I probably have a low-grade, common color 45 I could sell pretty cheaply. You'd have some left over parts then for future repairs ;)

If you cannot recoup the collar contact Martin Ferguson, he may have some spare collars.

Just thinking about emptying out the cupboard to get to the trap, and checked here - thanks Miles!

When I get the collar out (now I know its name...) I'll pass the favour on ;)

I have a Collar with F on it (for a fine nib although I believe any will fit) and the feed ... lol, the actual nib was broken when I got the pen.pens.jpg

I'm assuming inkysloth only requires the collar ... so if you want the feed and live in the UK let me know via PM.

Not certain what a P45 nib's "beak" is, but long, long ago (really: about 1964) I snapped the mini-hood from my Parker 45. I was careless when I caped the pen...cap slid up the nib and under the "hood", and I had a hoodless P45. The pen wrote perfectly until I gave it to a girl I had a crush on -- she looked like Sophia Loren, and had asked, and it was high school graduation night. We are still friends, but I never saw the pen again.

Conclusion: the P45 hood is mostly decoration.

Of course, if you removed the nib from the nib-unit and then lost the nib unit, yuou can always buy a 45 nib for $10 - $15.
