Tomorrow, with a final sermon, I close out my 7.5 year ministry in a community ~2 hours (by car) from my home.  For these past years I've been spending 3 days each week (theoretically) at the church site and then commuting back home.   It has been a rewarding ministry in any number of ways and I've been fortunate to be with these people.

A week from tomorrow I begin, with a first sermon, a new pastorate, as I've accepted a call to my home church that is ~ 20 minutes (by foot) from my home.  This will be a full time pastorate replete with staff and accouterments.

While I am sad to leave the congregation I've grown to love, I look forward to the new challenge and being home on a much more regular basis.  Less time on the road will be a plus as well as I will have more time in the pen cave!

Blessings for the New Year!

May you use the time gained from not driving back and forth for pen collecting!

Congratulations! I worked for an unforgiving jewelry store with a drive that totaled about 3 hours a day in the worst L.A. traffic and all I got when I left after 3 1/2 years was "glad you are leaving us, get the heck out of this store" comment from the owner  :(

The replacement that was sourced through a head hunting agency cost the store 9k and they paid him double my salary.

The guy was totally unqualified, and finally had to be fired by the store for gross incompetence; he destroyed a 20k Patek Philippe watch owned by a good customer!

Sounds like the store owner deserved what he got.

That is a sad story Greg. I think you deserved better as did the other man who passed away. Why can people not treat each other better, thankfully the Rev is able to share that simple creed with their new flock. I hope the new setting is working out.

Mags and all - just a quick update.  Everything is working out just fine in the new setting - going home again is possible!

Best of luck and many blessings in your new role and with a new congregation!
