This is an almost complete mini collection of Vacumatics in all available ringed celluloid color. Only the burgundy color is missing (another reason to repair my Maxima OS)

Krakers?  What Krakers????

These, I fear, are not mine. I had the chance to shoot a collection out west.

OK, here's one of my mini-collections:

bullet_pens.jpg

Old pictures -- I've added several other bullet pens and pencils to the group over the past few years. The one on the right has an ink pellet chamber at the back.

And some unusual Waterman pencils!

Wman_unusual_pencils.jpg

Wish I could find the matching pens for the pencils below . . . .

Wman_unusual_pencils2.jpg

The knife pencils I've had a long time. They were clearly based upon the Cattaraugus knife pencils, but using Waterman components (and fully Waterman marked).

Hi Phil,

Yeah.  We might need to change, at least for this thread, from "mini" to "focused", and at some point play with defining a top end for "mini" ;)

"Focused" on very rare, difficult to find, real vintage pens to stun the world (and your fellow members) maybe?  :)

Well a bit ordinary but a mini collection of Conklin streamline ringtops, a surprisingly hard to find model.

Sheaffer Imperials, all four cataloged colours.

and to round out the first Sheaffer models made in Australia ( as far as I've been able to determine), the TD Craftsman and TD Admiral

I'm thinking that the definition of "mini" in this context is never going to be pinned down: some collections are larger than others, after all, and one collector's mini-collection could be the entirety of another's collection. "Focused" is likewise a very blurry target indeed.

Not to speak for others (or even for other Davids), but perhaps the essence of the particular mini-collections that originally inspired this thread is something rather different entirely. Focus has more to do with it than size, with the nature of the focus being as important as its degree. What sets apart some mini-collections is their unexpectedness, how they make you look at the items in that group differently. Collecting by material or mechanism, rather than brand, for example. Or collecting the oddballs in a particular brand's model and line, the ones that are scarce but generally overlooked by most collectors and sidelined even by brand specialists.

Maybe I'm over-analyzing this (too much morning coffee?). Maybe it's the museum background showing through. How one puts together a collecting of items tells a story, and sharing mini-collections is a very compelling way of telling stories that otherwise don't get heard.

Happy New Year!

Thinking of mini, or focused collections, I currently have neither! But what I'm working toward is an example of each of Parker's clip designs. This seems, to me, to be an achievable goal... as long as I don't look too hard at the Snake pens etc.

I have collected the Sheaffer Cadet pen and pencil sets in the original 5 colors. I was originally attracted to this pen because the section matches the barrel I started collecting because the prices were not bad andthere was a finite number of models. The Sage and Vermillion models started the collection off of eBay The Black and burgundy models were also eBay finds but not as good of price points. Between availability and work/$ issues this took about 3 years to complete. No pictures due to operator issues

Matt385 Welcome, hopefully you will add some pictures soon.

Since not all pens have so rich version possibilities as the gorgeous david i Roseglows but we have enjoyed D. Nishimura bullet and special pencils and so many others, I though to add a little twist here with some “uncommon” pens (I am not convinced by the idea of “rare”, and “focused” is maybe too abstract), the idea is due to the fact that I heard a lot about those bullet pens, for example, and never saw one before even in a picture and that is the case for many of us. So I chose ten pens that I consider “uncommon”, maybe because I was looking for them very long time. If you know them just enjoy them again, if you don’t, well it is always good to see them at least in a picture… I am sure some people here will have information to share about them with us. Happy new year.

1. Fabula 205, Coral red

2. Angloamer, Red ripple

3. Onoto the pen, Marbled Light Green (it has a 3.7. at the lower part of the barrel)

4. Hartline-Blotter, Jade green

5. Ford, Red ripple

6. Imperial Meisterwerk, Black with Black & Pearl inserts in the box

7. Montblanc 224, Burgundy with the box

8. Typhoo Fountain Pen, Red Ripple (Most probably made by Onoto for a Tea company)

9. A.W. Faber 673, Gray & Red marbled

10. A.W. Faber 696 Safety, Black with a gold ring

Penmex, outstanding collection. Is the Imperial Meisterwek a Montblanc pen?
