Now all I need to find is a yellow one with a blue bit.....the seller has high expectations!!

Hugh
Hi Hugh,
I might hafta disagree with you as to the seller's expectation.

In very nice condition, this is a highly sought combo. The pool of combo collectors isn't large, but several of them have deep pockets and they aren't shy.
This bad boy will easily surpass the opening bid. Sadly, my inadequate bid will probably only earn me third place.

Okay David, tell me what I obviously don't know....please

Welllll... I could adopt one fellow's styles and say, "why would you think the seller's expectations are high?"
But, no. Let's not get annoyingly Socratic today.
The straight answer is that the pen is correct. It looks clean. Not sure the "Persian" (that front end reminds me of Waterman's Persian plastic) isn't a smidge darkened but might not be.
The blue pens have the yellow area. no one knows why. Believe it is catalogued. And, even if not, all the pens turn up that way. You don't need to find a yellow/white pen with blue tip. The pen is worth well more than the entry price.

David

Ensembles came in black & gold (almost common), pearl & black and green & pearl (much less common) and blue & gold (rarely seen).

Hi John,
There are some other colors too, some rather scarce.

And to follow up on this, here is one of them, photographed at the Ohio 2002 show. I've seen couple more since then.

My observations of Ensembles is not nearly as long as yours! I'd like to get my hands on that lovely pearl number.
What I listed are what I've seen.
The ebay example blue & gold is indeed listed in the 30/31 catalog (as are the other three mentioned). No entirely blue or gold versions are listed. Other catalogs may indicate other colors, but that's all I've got.

By "green & pearl," do you mean Leaf Green, like this?Ensembles came in black & gold (almost common), pearl & black and green & pearl (much less common) and blue & gold (rarely seen).
My Black & Pearl is earlier -- note the clip. (This is why I have two Ensembles, not one.)

Made $565, I don't know if thats a good or a poor price as those in the "know" suggested this an uncommon item. I agree with John re Davids combo.

Hugh
Hard to say. Likely in the zone in grand condition. Nice combos in typical colors can run mid $200 s easily enough. But the market has spoken on this markedly less common color.

Yikes! That's one gorgeous plastic!
BTW, I was a distant third for the blue & gold. Prices are difficult to predict for these less common combos as the buyer pool is small (but some are very well funded).
Anybody else notice that prices on the common Sheaffers seemed to be quite high lately? Somewhat unpredictable the way these things seem to ratchet up and down.
