Hello all,

 

I was given the opportunity to scan a collection of Pelikan documents ,that I believe to be  from the 30-40´s and  that I find very interesting.

 

It looks to be a Sellers training manual mixed up with some advertisements made by Pelikan.

 

They are almost all in Portuguese but they show details of the Pelikan Factory, production process, products sold, engravings machines, adds and brochures. There is even a FAQ sheet, very advance concept for that time I believe 

 

With time I will try to translate all and update here.

For a Portuguese like myself, apart from the technical and marketing content it is  very interesting to see how the language changed from those days till today. Different spelling, different phrase construction and even words that are now very unusual this days. This is really interesting.

 

Notice on the first factory pictures how they did the sleeves. First they would do the inner hole, then they placed a rod or mandril inside the sleeve just for the cutting tool does not smash the sleeve when cutting and then they would shave the exterior of the sleeve tube to the defined diameter using a double cutting tool from the front and back of the stock.

There is also a funny letter in German, so I might help here:



The letter has been written by the German „Reichspräsident“ Paul von Hindenburg* to Fritz Beindorff (son in law of Günther Wagner and owner of Pelikan Werke). Here’s the translation:

Dear Sir Kommerzienrat!

I want to say thank you for your friendly Christmas and new year wishes, and for your present, the Pelikan fountain pen which you have specially manufactured for me. With pleasure I will use this good German product occasionally. The best wishes also to you.

*(von Hindenburg was the guy who appointed Adolf Hilter to „Reichskanzler“ in 1933…)

But the thing which makes me really curios is the „specially for Hindenburg manufactured“ Pelikan pen!!

May I  ask you if "Kommerzienrat" means Distinguish Business men or Entrepreneur?

Kommerzienrat has been a honorable award, given to important persons of industry and commerce.
