I have just acquired a NOS triple set and knew the BP would not work with modern refills so I also ordered a Widget so that it can be used.  My problem is how to get the original refill out.  I've twisted and pulled and used pliers so the refill is now dinted.  What am I doing wrong?  It's my first Tucky BP and probably my last.  I think I'll stick to Parkers.

I cannot comment on restoration of these. The refill likely should slide out. I don't believe it is threaded.  BP's are relatively uncommon among the pre-Snorkel series.  Don't let this put you off from Sheaffer. The FPs are terrific and show growing collector interest.  There has not been much written about them, so research opportunities abound.

I'll have to ask the handy man to give it a tug.  I have lots of Sheaffer FP's but I won't be getting any more Vac Fills.  The FP in this set is Vac Fill but it's taking up water without any leaks.

I'd have thought it would be threaded.

Could be. That would explain why it doesn't permit a straight retraction.

I managed to get the original refill working and decided to put it back in the pen but could not get the Widget out.  I wrote to the E Bay seller who had sold me the Widget to ask how to remove.  He said he uses a small screw driver and just unscrews like the original refill.  No wonder the postman was red faced trying to pull out a screw fit refill.  The original screwed back in with no trouble so all the tugging has not damaged threads.  So Hugh wins the biscuit definitely screw threaded.
