I just received this pen yesterday from an eBay purchase.  I wish I had taken a "before" picture, but I neglected to do that.  The pen was quite dark.  The lever box was broken and the clip was loose. The sac was sort of melted onto the inside of the barrel.  It was just about the most difficult I have ever had to remove.  After I removed it, I noticed that the color had lightened up considerably.

Similarly, a lot of the dark color of the cap seemed to be the result of ink residue.  I ended up pulling the inner cap to tighten the clip, and was also able to clean the cap completely.  It also became lighter in color.  With the unstable Persian plastic, much of the pen becomes transparent, so whatever is inside shows through.  Thus, you can see that when I replaced the inner cap, it results in a darker area at the top of the cap.  I found myself wishing for some kind of wild colored inner cap, instead of the black one.  I replaced the whole lever box assembly, and reset the nib.

Final results look pretty nice, I think.  The pen is not really the same as the original Persian, but is still quite attractive.  I found myself thinking that if you could paint the inside of the cap and barrel with bright patches of blue, pink, and green, you might be able to come close to the original color.  Hmmmmm ......

Lovely. I lucked into a Lady Patricia in Persian earlier this year. I really have no idea how these pens (in this color) looked when they were new.

Jon,

I have always believed them to look pretty much like the pencils still do.  That's true for most old pens (notable exception being the Parker 51).  I suppose that the plastic was unstable but needed some sulphur from the sac or some chemicals from the ink to change color to any extent.  Here are my Persians.  The pencil at the top is probably the best example of the original color.  My latest pen is in the middle.

Wow, thanks for that, Allan! Good to consider the pencils as some form of benchmark (I'm not that well-versed on the many environmental factors in material degradation over time). It seems like my little pen didn't fair too badly.

Stunning pens. I bet when new they were even more striking...
