Tom Westerich is currently selling a pen on www.penboard.de which is of a certain interest to me.
It's this pen:

You're right. It's not a Waterman's 52V like mentioned in the title of this thread. It's a pretty rare Montblanc Rouge et Noir. More info about the pen you'll find at penboard.de. But the part of interest is the nib. The nib is stamped with a huge "J". This is what the Montblanc has in common with one of my Waterman's 52V in BCHR.

Now I really am curious about why Waterman's and Montblanc have the same nib stamps on completely different pens. If someone has more informations to share, I really would apreciate.

Christof

Hi Christof,

I had a Burnham pen recently that had a J on the nib as well. Completely different font though.

Have a look here: http://bit.ly/1lrXObN.

Burnhams used the letter J for its calligraphy nibs, but I really don't know why and if  the J on Tom's and your pen is an indication for a calligraphy nib as well.

Best regards from The Netherlands,

Allard Borst

This is an instance of a special-purpose fountain pen nib made as a version of a standard dip-pen nib.

For some reason, J nibs are found primarily in German pens -- just as Falcon nibs are most often found in American pens.

In both instances, however, these nibs are very scarce.

Thank you David.

You mean nibs like this?

I did a writing sample with my pen:

in fact, the nib is very flexible under some pressure. but this is not unusual for these vintage Waterman's...

PS: it's the third pen from the left:

More illustrations here, too.
