Paul received a hefffty number of subscriptions to the new mag.

Ahem.

I'm hoping to see Paul, himself, in SF in a few days, and I'll certainly find out things on my own. That said, is there ever going to be something public about this, or is it some secret society kinda thing?

Heh heh. It does seem to be one of the quieter big announcements. One would think that a forum might be a good place for non-DC-attenders to get some information...

All in good time friends. And that time should be pretty soon... :)

TBH, I only renewed about 3 weeks ago (when it was due); had my due date been around now, I'm not sure how I would have been affected. I do know that I'm determined to give it a year and we'll see how it shakes out. The organization stands for some good things, and this isn't the time to abandon it.

I joined for the first time on July 28.  Guess I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!

But seriously, I'm not sure it would have mattered to me.  Access to repair manuals and catalogs was only part of the appeal; getting the Pennant was the other part.  I was disappointed that the recent issues are not available online, though I assumed (always perilous) there was an intentional delay between publication and posting online.

If the announcement was made at the DC show, why not just include it here?

No major reason.  I just have not had time to organize. Too, I'd held off as-- save for emails to paul-- subscription is not simple, as website is not yet setup fully.  Do you think I should offer the Big Giant Announcement?

Prelim Black Pen Society and Archive links at least are working.  I've been wondering about offering a forum here for discussion of articles that appear in the mag. Synergy or some such...

I seem to recall that Paul (who apparently is not playing here) had a magazine, the Fountian Pen Quarterly at one venture.  Though I don't insist.  I do not know what happened to this publication but it seems logical that this could be restarted with an electronic component.  Though again, I do not insist.

The three related threads on this topic have been pinned to top of "Elements of Collecting" at least for now.  They certainly qualify as choice issues within this theme.

Woah!  Where did all *this* come from!

Dropped in because I didn't get Pennant for summer & now fall issue.  Was wondering if everything OK.

Evidently it is not.

Me likes Procyon's idea.  Burn pens & collect exciting underwear worn by Hollywood stars.

WTB:  Lauren Bacall's nylons.

And by the way, I hate everyone but Allen & Dr. Isaacson.  They were the only two members who replied to my last question about a Waterman 12 in f.s.

----

Dear Mr. David Nishimura,

Thank you for all the help you've given me over the years.  But really.  You need to drop what you are doing and pay attention to me!   Want to know about silver overlay pens and any information you might have about nylons.

Especially black ones.  I want to join the Black Nylons Society.  Believe Lady Gaga is Grand Gam but she hasn't replied to my phone calls and e-mails.

I did get a restraining order from Judge Judy.  I suspect Judge Judy is also a member of the Black Nylons club.

If you can help, please reply and I promise not to hate you anymore.  I will put away the voodoo doll and remove the Falcon nibs sticking in it.

Thank you for your time and attention in reading this letter.

Sincerely;

Bruce Bocquin

Aspirant, Black Nylons Club (and former Waterman pen enthusiast)

Windcrest, Texas

---

Meanwhile I do have a large number of very rare and expensive catalogs featuring naughty underwear from the 1940's.

It's been suggested I allow someone to digitize these tomes and put them on the net for free.

What the devil would I want to do that for?

These things cost money.  If they're free, what's to stop some schmuck from copying them, burning them onto CD-ROM and then selling them on eBay for 10 bucks a hit?

Hi-Fi Engine has owner & service manuals available to anyone who signs up.  Or... If you want to waste money, you can also buy the same manuals where someone has hacked the PDF security password, deleted the first page that reads, "Hi-Fi Engine" and is selling them for...

You guessed it!  Ten bucks a pop!

So why would I want to donate anything when someone is going to come along, download it for free, and then make money off my investment?     And legally speaking, can't prove a thing so there's nothing I can do about it!

Honor...  "A man is only as good as his word"... "Gentleman's Agreement"...

Pathetically outdated concepts from a bygone age.

Ethical Egoism Rules!

Worth $2 plus shipping?  Or $10 + shpping on thumb-drive?

Depends on the shipping...

Real answer: Yes.

And an idea:  How about tossing a copy in the next Journal for anyone that was an inaugural member an signed up at the beginning?

A very good thought. I suspect though that Paul won't want to be involved in this project, and I can understand that.

Sumgai posted it on another board a few years ago.  Very artistic.  I think it came from Cigar Aficionado if I remember correctly...
