I just disassembled a newly-arrived Sheaffer imperial I (blue plastic), and found that the sac was torn. More perplexing, though, was the internal structure of the Imperial I — once I obtained a replacement sac, where was I to put it? Does it go onto the little thingummybob through which the breather tube is threaded?

And assuming that I could find a place to shellac the sac, I thought I should replace the O-ring just in case; but I can't find a way to release the blind cap from the tube.

I'd be most thankful for any guidance my betters could offer this flummoxed amateur.

These pens were not meant to be repaired but it is possible.  The connector unscrews to show the sac nipple.  Once the sac is attached it has to be threaded through the connector.

The plunger knob (blind cap) has been glued on so you need to  heat and wiggle to get off.  The O ring is the same size as the snorkel.  The plunger knob is glued on after the new O ring has been fitted.  Fiddly job all round.
