Howdy, stylophiles. The background check cleared so now I can post a hello. ;)

Male, late 40s, single, never convicted. wink.png  I live in Greensboro, NC in a nice, comfortable house that comes complete with a home theater and a cat. By profession I'm a writer and game designer. I'm primarily known for my work in the tabletop roleplaying game field (where I both own a small publishing company and work as a freelancer/self-employed guy). But in recent years I've focused as much (if not more) on writing fiction, with some reasonable success.

My current major projects both relate to my long-standing interest in mythology. One, finished a couple months ago, is a non-fiction book about the Norse god Odin. It's scheduled to be published by Osprey in late 2015. The other is a massive book on world mythology, primarily for gaming. I've been working on it for three years and am about 400,000 words in -- and probably have at least that much more time to go, if not more. I keep trying to chisel out large blocks of time to work on it (and on my perpetually-in-revisions novel), but keep getting interrupted by an interesting assignment here, a cool project there. wink.png

I started collecting fountain pens casually a couple of years ago. My first "serious" pen (by my standards at the time) was a silver Levenger Newton, which remains one of my favorites to this day. This year my interest in fountain pens has taken off considerably for no particular reason I can discern -- but what the heck, I'm having fun. I currently have an eclectic collection of about 100 pens, assembled mostly on the basis of, "Hey, I really like the way that pen looks!" wink.png The focus of my colllecting tends to be Cross Townsends, of which I own about two dozen; I'm in the process of writing a little guidebook about Cross Townsends (for my own use, at least). If you have any Townsends you don't want I'll be happy to give them a home. ;)

I find that I particularly enjoy using a fountain pen to write fiction. I'll assemble a selection of inked pens that suits my mood at the moment, repair to my mocked-up standing desk, and begin scribbling away. The feel of nib gliding across paper seems to spur my creativity and keep the ideas coming in a smooth, well-timed manner. I'm curious to see if I end up getting a higher rate of acceptances on stories I write this way, though it'll be months or years before I can say with any certainty.

In addition to fountain pens I also collect (a) antique maps, travel guides, and exploration books from the 1920s and 1930s, and (b ) tarot cards. The former hobby stems from my work (I've written extensively on the popular literature and history of the "Pulp Era"); the latter is just for fun. wink.png I'm also a serious bibliophile who's ever eager to add another interesting book to his library (which currently numbers about 6,000 volumes). So if any of you are interested in those subjects feel free to ping me about them as well.
