Picked up a Waterman pen recently that I found attractive and it is marked with the numbers 0594. I'm not familiar with the designation and a Google search did not bring up much useful information. Does anyone have any information about it?

I was also surprised to see that it had the Waterman color code nib (in this case green). I've never seen one on anything other than a Number 5 or 7.

Here are a few pictures:

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Nice pen.

Though Waterman's  ~1917 numbering system was beginning to break down by the late 1920's, the use of prefix numbers still worked for the 94 model.  a "5" in the hundreds column would indicate gold overlay, solid 14k if no further modification or "594" for the model. A "0" in the thousands spot modified the "gold" with "filled". An 0594 is a proper and expected number for a 94 with gold-filled overlay.  Not at all common.

Keyhole "color" nibs are found with the 94.

Do explore our GALLERY at top of page (separate tab, best opened as a second browser tab) with some information for use of the similar prior version found as a thread in our GREETINGS forum.  Uploads to posts are capped at 500kb total independent of picture count or posts to received uploads. Limited. GALLERY offers huge storage. You could put "full" size 800-1000 pixel images there, then paste via the SHARE OPTIONS "BBC" code right into your posts, for full size images. If you externally host, use the photo icon button (just below the smiley face emoticon in the text box) to load pics.

regards

Hi,

That's a great pen!  As David said, the 94 overlays are quite rare, and yours looks to be in nice shape. Only a few of my 94's have the color coded nibs, but they are correct for the pen. My belief is that they were used on the later pens, but I could be wrong about that.  Rob Astyk wrote a nice piece on the 94 for Lion and Pen, but that has disappeared from the web.  I believe I may have a copy of it, and will see if it is permissible to post it here.  If you grow tired of your 0594, I would be interested in it.  If not - enjoy it!

Here is a link to a post showing my 94 collection which was posted a few weeks ago.

Hi,

Thank you both for all the information!

Allen, your collection of 94's is beautiful. The olive ripples and plastic Persians are particularly striking!

To be honest, I'm not sure if I'll end up keeping it. Not really my style. I don't generally like the feel of metal, but something about it intrigued me. I'll let you know, Allen if I decide not to keep it.

Regards,

Walter

Where is Rob Astyk?

The guy is/was a fount of pen information.  Had some political issues with moderators but he would flourish here.
