I thought this color was a later addition.

Generally that color was a late addition (1936, with the last Vacuum Filler-- pre Vacumatic pen-- believed made in 1933), and one must explore suspected brown  earlier pens very carefully, as I have seen some silver pearl pens go so far south that at first peek the plastic looks brown. One should hunt very carefully for protected areas (even the threads on jewels) that still look gray. We cannot unscrew the section to look at section threads as the VF's have single piece barrel-section.

That said, there is a claimed brown Vacuum-Filler iirc both in Parker Archives and cited in Zazove's Vac Book.

best regards

David

I'm confident that it is gold and not silver.

Caps and blind caps are the easy part.  Barrels can be tricky.  Anomalies do occur, part of the charm of the hobby, but I still recommend close exploration.

Regards

Looks like the barrel/section joint has some distortion.

No way that's any other color that discolored.

Is the rest of the barrel opaque?

It appears to be, but I haven't disassembled further than the filler nut.
