I disagree
I found it to be the hardest to find of all the vacumatic colors when trying to make my mini collection of double jewel pens.
finding a clean example without issue was quite difficult.
the other difficult pen I felt was the buckskin.
weird how things go, I finally located a dj in cedar and a second one came along shortly after.
keep in mind I am not combing shows looking for DJ cedars, and I was trying to locate mine in the wild, of which I found both that way, but with exception of my buckskin, I found all the rest in the wild.

I'm inclined to go with Todd on this point, though there is room to explore.
Cedar first year pens are not so easy to find, and one can argue the color is the toughest among the "common colors" (actually, might be so even for single jewel pens), but still not as tough to find as fairly exotic "tough 3" colors when found as first years. Now, if the tough three colors (Buckskin, Yellowstone, Nassua) were not found as first-year pens (I've not handled any in fact, though I've seen couple claimed to be pre-first-year), then Cedar would indeed by default be the toughest first year color as it is probably the toughest of the four common colors in general. Or something...

I was not actively seeking one but when I did find one I thought it was the first one I'd come across. It was not without issues though. The nib was bent and it wouldn't write but I was able to fix it. I have DJ's now in Black, Cordovan, Buckskin and the Cedar.

Collecting 51s can be fun. I don't collect with intense focus. The following are not part of my personal collection. Some stock I recently sent to restorer.

how many cedar are in there?
even though that does not represent a realistic sample, it kinda makes a loose point.

It's doesn't account for the selection process
There were some at the 2008 Vacumania "51" offering.
