Hi all!

Another pen that I picked up today that is different, at least to my untrained eye. Interesting markings on the barrel near the blind cap, and on the clip too.

What does it mean?

Thanks!

I have an OS emerald pearl barrel with that marking. It came from the Netherlands.

That is neat! I was wondering what those markings are. Thank you!

I think the Regd/ no/ is a UK Design Registration number. This particular entry is held in file BT53/66 in the UK National Archives, and the registration date of 784404 will be approximately July 1933. Most of these Design Registry files (including this one) are not yet digitised, though you can get a copy of the page containing the entry reasonably cheaply if you apply for it through the National Archives website. I would guess it relates specifically to the design of the clip rather than the pen itself.

Thank you Andy! So, not Netherlands then, interesting. Well, I did not know there was a Registry for British/U.K. Designs. Perhaps this is the protection from patent infringement requirement for articles from Parker abroad.

Thanks! I paid $40.00 for the pen so I guess it is a good one.

I think it is fairly well known that the original Dahlberg patent protection for the Vacumatic design itself was covered separately in Europe by a British patent no. GB318982 (January 1930) and France no. FR664202 (August 1929). Presumably these patent numbers would have been imprinted on the barrel of the pen, as appropriate to the intended market? That is why I suggested the registered design probably referred only to the clip, which should have prevented others imitating the design in the UK at least.

Sorry Greg, I should've clarified. I meant the pen came from the Netherlands not necessarily the meaning behind the particular marking.
