I have had for some time a pretty Onyx pen stamped Vacuum Oil Company Gargoyle Marine Oils. It is fitted with a Swan No 2 stub as the original nib was horrible. (First photo).
Naturally when the chance came to get another "Gargoyle" I couldn't resist. This one is earlier, probably late 1920s, manufactured by Byers & Hayes, USA. The nib appears to be gold but doesn't say so; it is very nice; I like it. The filling system is crazy: a lever, with a disconnected bar with a depression that aligns with the end of the lever; the bar is held in place by the sac! Silly but I managed to assemble it and it works.
Have any of you seen another Gargoyle pen?
