I'm curious to learn more about this cute cat, which recently sold online. I know it's a display item from the reintroduction of the Duofold in the 1990s, and I presume it links back to old Parker advertising, but I can't recall seeing an old Duofold ad with a cat in it. Can someone who knows more about Duofolds enlighten me?

No idea of any special significance, but it is the first of these I've seen. Very nice :)

I saw this action, was kind of tempted but it was just too creepy. Also, I think it is a repro?

The black cat was a motif used in a couple of old ads from the early teens for the Lucky Curve pens, so it's pre-Duofold. The reason for the cat was to say the Parker nibs didn't scratch like cats do.

The ad below is a reprint from a 1996 Parker calendar. Sorry about the weird angle, but it's mounted under glass in a montage. Remember that back at this time, the "pen" was the nib, a holdover from the dip pen era.

Thanks to John, I was able to find a copy of the ad that includes the cat. (Actually, 2 cats.) This picture comes from an auction of the 1996 calendar. Pretty cool. I think.
