White dot on the end of the barrel or on the side between the lever and section?

This is an amazing coincidence. Just this afternoon a friend sent me a link to the site and I did the PayPal for the subscription fee.

Pinned gripping section or unpinned?

Unpinned. Just removed the section and couldn't find any traces of ink. Also this afternoon I sent an email to the individual who I believe sold it to me last November on eBay asking for more information. Long shot.

Just sent Paul an inquiry about purchasing the two back issues.

Meanwile I'd love to hear whatever it said in that article about Crests like mine.

Don't worry about back issues. We prefer to keep everyone on the same subscription cycle. Easier for renewals. So, if you mention to Paul (who btw is hanging out right now in my living room in Manhattan) that you want to start with the very first issue, you indeed will get the first two issues now as part of your 3-issue sub, you will get the third issue in Summer, and will be asked to renew before Fall.

You will enjoy the Crest article in the 2nd issue.

Your pen indeed is a 1937-1941 original Crest. Arguably the presence of cartouche dates it to relatively early in that run, but perhaps later than the end of the pinnned-section era.

This was the usual Lazard/Kirch circus on FPN....Lazard actually providing the answer while someone else indulged in ( insert word of choice).

Read the article. You'll get the proper answers and the appropriate speculation where definite answers are lacking, and you will avoid the personality disorder seen with the fellow on FPN. ;)

My mailperson delivered the two back issues of Fountain Pen Journal this afternoon. I didn't see her but there was a world-shattering crash and I knew immediately what had happened.

I feel much more informed about early Crests after the reading, but David I wonder if you might be able to add some "appropriate speculation" on chronology on the following topics:

  1. white dot placement
  2. feeds

Edit to add:

Breathing easier now about that personality disorder danger.
