Hi

Last week I saw a lovely Mabie Todd No 5 dip pen with a mother of pearl handle, 9 carat gold ferrule and a big MT nib.It is in superb condition in a very smart hard MT box. It is on an antique stall and the dealer does not know what he wants for it.

I am a fountain pen person and don't follow dip pens so I am not able to help him. Does anybody here have any idea?

Thanks

Simon

I sold a No 3 in similar condition for £186 in December if that's any help.

Thanks Deb. I guess a number 5 would be a bit bigger and therefore probably worth a bit more. I will have to see if I can find my Mabie in America disc to see if the numbers denote size or style. I haven't looked at it for years and I can't quite remember where I put it.

I'm pretty sure it will be size.

Deb, you are right. I found my Mabie in America and the dip pens vary in size according to the number.  This is rather a beautiful thing, and I am very tempted buy it if I can agree a reasonable price - always assuming it does not sell before then

Oh dear! I try to stick to fountain pens and resist the temptation of pencils and dip pens but it is hard to do so when they are so nice. I could easily branch out into dip pens if I could find many like these.
