I picked up a nice red Esterbrook fountain pen, pencil, and ballpoint set.  The fountain pen and pencil are fine but the ballpoint is jammed.  I pulled on the refill tip and a piece about 2 inches long came out.  I tried soaking in plain mineral spirits for about a month and that did nothing, so today I started with about 75% xylol and 25% mineral spirits.   A lots of black crud has been coming out, At this point I can move the cap up and down maybe 1/10 of an inch but cannot exert enough pressure to unscrew it.

Any help as how to remove cap and remaining part of refill would be appreciated so I can finish cleaning it.

Regards

Jeff

J series?  Scroll to the bottom of this page

and you can see a J-series ball point demonstrator.  There appear to be male cap threads screwed into the barrel.

Thanks, it is a J series, but the cap is totally jammed as far as unscrewing goes

Well today after 38 continuous days of solvent soaks the cap broke loose and unscrewed.  The refill is still stuck in the barrel so will continue to soak and from the looks of things this may take quite a while.

Regards

Jeff
