Hello all,

As most of you know, I'm strictly an early Parker guy. A friend of a friend sent me a box of pens earlier in the week that he was left by his dad decades ago, a man who owned a stationery store and pen repair business. Most of the stuff was junk, but there's a few interesting pens and pencils I'll be posting over the next week to seek your advice. This is the first one.

Below is a Waterman 45 Safety Pen in BCHR. It's 5-1/4 inches long. The imprints are nice and the mechanism seems to go up and down ok. To the bad, the pen is pretty oxidized and there's a small crack in the cap lip. I've added some photos below.

Can anyone tell me anything about the era is was made and anything else that might be interesting? As I said, I know nothing about this one, so anything you could tell me would be great. Thanks much for the help.

I'm sure another David and a George can give you more detail.  The "45" imprint dates it to 1917 or later.  I have to review some of my few safeties to see if they are marked "safety" on barrel. The pen ran likely through or nearly through end of 1920's. There were some late issue safety pens by Waterman (different look) even in the 1940s.

45 is a decent size pen. not so common.  But, worn and in black of modest value.

regards

david

Thanks David. I'll likely bring it to the Chicago show and try to find it a new home.
