I guess this Parker 51 hits the list of something being extra, extra special?

Triple the price for a usual really nice one. Sometimes bidding happens. Congrats to Patrick on a nice sale.

It's really a striking looking pen. The combination of the great barrel color and the two tone cap sets it off. That's still a ton of sheckles though.

All, why does it seem that the fountain pen sells for more alone than the same fountain pen in a set would sell for?

You can't answer a question that imagines a value. Give us two comparable examples of pen and set selling for disparate amounts and then a conversation can take place.

you all follow eBay closely there was a first year set recently that sold for about $1500, and then the pen alone here for 2K+
