Anybody here have experience with this seller?  I think it is associated somehow with Ariel Kullock.  There is a partial Conklin Halloween pen listed on eBay.  It is missing the clip, section, nib, and feed.  You can see the lever is there, but since the section is missing, I was wondering if the pressure bar was still inside the barrel.  If it was missing, this would make the repair much harder. I am not even sure how the lever connected to the pressure bar for Conklins, but I think it might be difficult to put in a new one. Here is the pen:

So I sent a message to the seller asking if the pressure bar was present.  The following exchange occurred.  It is beginning to sound like an Abbott and Costello routine.

Here is the conversation:

Dear penpartsstore,

Hi, Just wondering if the lever is connected to a pressure bar, and does the lever/pressure bar appear to be okay?   Thanks and Best Regards.

Dear egoforth,

Hi the lever is fine, there seems not to be a sac inside .

Michelle

Dear penpartsstore,

Thanks, I guess I wasn't clear. The real question in my mind was if there is a pressure bar attached to the lever.  If it's missing it can be very difficult to find one that fits.

Dear egoforth,

There seems not to be a pressure bar inside . You can move the lever filler without pressure/.

Dear penpartsstore,

The pressure bar is a stiff piece of metal that runs lengthwise inside the barrel. It is attached to the lever. When you raise the lever the bar presses against the sac.  If there is no sac you will be able to move the lever with no pressure, even if there is a pressure bar.  You have to look inside the barrel to tell if there is a pressure bar. You can easily see it if you move the lever while looking into the barrel.

Dear egoforth,

there is no pressure while pushing the lever.

Dear penpartsstore,

As I said, there would not be any pressure whether the pressure bar was present or not.  The pressure bar is an object attached to the lever. The only way to tell if it is there is to look in the open end of the barrel.  Since there is no nib or section, it is very simple to do. Sorry, I really don't mean to bother you, but I can't understand why you find this so difficult to understand.

Well, that is the way it stands as of Thursday morning.  I may have succeeded in pissing off Michelle to the extent that she will never answer my question - but it doesn't appear she is going to anyway.  She did say once that there "appears to be no pressure bar" - but then she follows it up with the statement that there is no pressure when you lift the lever.  That leads me to believe that's how she determined that fact.  When she has to do is look down the damned open end of the barrel.  I probably should have given up and not sent the last message.

Ordered (or maybe won) a Parker 51 mechanical pencil from them.  Seem to remember return address being "Ariel."  Slow to ship, but product was as described.

FWIW:

Had a similar experience with an antique Aladdin lamp.  One model has 3 gears to move wick.  It's notorious for cracked weld & being lost, so I always ask.

Back & forth seller & I went until I drew her a diagram

Good thing I did because once she saw diagram, replied back.  "Sorry I didn't understand.  Not a lamp collector.  Your picture very detailed!  I don't think it has the gear in the middle.  Hope that helps."

Made offer based on parts, but no reply.  ; )

Best wishes on pen.  Looks nice a nice one!

This may be a bit dicey to repair.  There is a crack above the hole where the clip goes, according to the description.  So pulling the inner cap could be an adventure.

I have purchased a few parts from them.. I never had an issue, but communication lead me to believe that English may not be their first language and when I purchase something from them I know not to ask to many technical questions!!

There is language barrier there.  Some of Ariel's parts are original. Some of his stuff is reproduction. I suspect honest attempts are being made to answer your questions. The exchange is a bit entertaining, from afar ;)

I had a transaction with them gone wrong - I can't remember whether they lost the product or didn't describe it properly. In the end, it was ultimately their fault.

I saw Michelle at a show shortly thereafter, and she was completely gracious about it - so much so that I really didn't develop a negative opinion despite the faulty transaction. In the end I didn't lose anything, they offered me a variety of options to make it good. There may be communication issues, but sometimes I guess we need to be more tolerant of some of the non-native English speakers that bring some cultural richness to our hobby.

Please join the Mabie Todd Swan project where I am trying to sort out the undocumented mess that is American Mabie Todd's from the 1930's. The last pens that MT seemed to advertise were the "Eternal" pens, and then the company put out a wide range of different styles, shapes, sizes and filling systems before eventually closing up shop. I invite you to post your pictures of your American pens

Ariel, Michelle, Jesse have always been very gracious, in my experience.

Another good reason to go to a pen show :)

Dealing with them is usually no problem.  I think the items I purchased in the past came from Argentina, but now they seem to operate out of Miami.  Actually, since this Halloween auction, I have purchased a very nice Waterman 414 from Michelle with no problems. I finally decided against bidding on the Halloween pen, mainly because of the crack in the cap.

Bought plenty of fantasy 51 and genuine 51 parts from Ariel over the years without issue. May be a little slow at times and communication can be a lottery, but Ariel, Jesse and Michelle rank among the good guys.
